Odd Duck isn't just a restaurant, it's a fiercely local, scratch kitchen institution in Austin. We celebrate Texas seasons by building our dynamic menus directly around the daily harvests and proteins from our local farmers and ranchers. Our kitchen is a hub for serious culinary professionals who want to push boundaries. We focus heavily on live wood-fire cooking, simple fermentation, scratch made condiments, and blending local Texas roots with Mexican and Asian flavor profiles, while drawing deep inspiration from a wide variety of global food cultures and our own team's diverse backgrounds.

We are currently seeking enthusiastic, highly skilled cooks to join our kitchen. We want professionals who have a profound respect for ingredients, a strong grip on fundamental techniques, and the ability to manage their station with precision. Beyond knife skills, we are looking for team players. We cultivate a zero-ego, mentorship-driven environment where everybody pitches in. From collaborating on new menu concepts to sweeping the line, jumping into the dish pit to keep operations efficient, and keeping the space pristine.

What to Bring to Your Interview/Stage:

  • Your Tools: A basic knife kit, including a chef's knife and paring knife (peeler optional, but always good to have).

  • Footwear: Sturdy, non-slip shoes ready for a real kitchen environment.

  • Headwear: Hat or bandana to keep your hair out of your face.

  • Attire: Comfortable clothing. Pants are highly preferred over shorts, but ultimately, wear what allows you to move safely and comfortably.

  • Your Mindset: An inquisitive mind and a positive, team oriented attitude.

Core Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

  • Ability to push or pull a cart up to 75 lbs.

  • Stamina to work long, fast-paced shifts on your feet.

  • Reliable transportation to work (public transit is perfectly fine).

  • Clear, effective communication with coworkers regarding safety, prep needs, and operational flow.

What We Bring to the Table: We believe in taking care of the people who take care of our guests. We offer a positive, supportive work environment with genuine opportunities for career growth and cross-training within our broader restaurant family (Odd Duck, Sour Duck Market, and Barley Swine).

  • Compensation: Competitive weekly pay, plus overtime opportunities.

  • Health Coverage: Employer contributions toward premium health, vision, and dental insurance.

  • Food & Perks: Daily staff meal included, plus a generous 30% dining discount at Odd Duck and all our sister restaurants.

If you are ready to cook with the best ingredients in Texas, master new techniques, and work alongside a crew that genuinely has your back, we want to hear from you.
