Position Summary:
The Line Cook will set up their workstation with the required tools, equipment, and supplies according to standards. You will prepare and produce menu items for the restaurant, private dining bar, follow recipes and yield guides, and proper plate presentation and garnish for all dishes you produce. You will maintain the organization, cleanliness and sanitation of your work areas and equipment.
Essential Functions:- Set up assigned workstation with required tools, equipment, ingredients, and supplies according to company standards.
- Prepare and produce menu items for the restaurant, private dining, catering, and/or bar service according to recipes, yield guides, portion standards, and chef instructions.
- Cook menu items in cooperation with the rest of the kitchen team to ensure food is prepared accurately, consistently, and in a timely manner.
- Follow proper plate presentation, garnish, quality, and timing standards for all dishes produced.
- Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with departmental policies, recipes, service procedures, and kitchen standards.
- Follow prep lists, measure ingredients and seasonings, wash, chop, peel, and prepare food items as needed for service.
- Label, stock, rotate, and store ingredients and prepared food items properly to support food safety, quality, and accessibility.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of work areas, equipment, tools, storage areas, and kitchen stations.
- Use kitchen equipment correctly and safely, and report equipment issues or maintenance concerns to management.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, OSHA, and health department requirements.
- Communicate effectively with chefs, kitchen team members, front-of-house staff, and managers to support smooth service and positive guest experiences.
- Work calmly and efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining attention to detail and food quality.
- Assist with inventory support, restocking, rotating supplies, dishwashing, cleaning, and other kitchen duties as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High school diploma, equivalent, or vocational training certificate preferred.
- Previous line cook, prep cook, or comparable kitchen experience preferred; one year of line cook experience preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Washington State Food Worker Card as required for food workers.
- Knowledge of basic cooking methods, food preparation techniques, knife skills, kitchen equipment, recipes, portioning, plating, and sanitation standards.
- Ability to follow recipes, chef instructions, prep lists, and service standards accurately and consistently.
- Ability to work quickly, safely, and efficiently while maintaining quality and organization during busy service periods.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, follow through, multitask, and maintain concentration under pressure.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cohesively with chefs, kitchen staff, managers, and front-of-house team members.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Mental Requirements Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions, follow instructions, prioritize tasks, communicate effectively with team members, remain professional during high-volume service, maintain focus and attention to detail, and interact with people in a positive manner that creates confidence and trust.
- Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, reach, twist, kneel, crouch, push, pull, grasp, lift, and carry food products, kitchen tools, boxes, and supplies up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to work around hot, cold, wet, slippery, and noisy kitchen conditions; use hands and arms for repetitive food preparation; climb stairs as needed; and safely perform duties in a fast-paced restaurant kitchen environment. Availability to work varied schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts as business needs require.
